Value Disconnect? The Tale of Two Kobe Bryant RCs

For time to time, we uncover market pricing that seems to defy logic. That seems to be the case with these two Kobe Bryant RCs:

1. 1996 Ultra Gold Medallion #G52 Kobe Bryant

2. 1996 SkyBox Premium Rubies #55 Kobe Bryant

The two pop reports show the there are nearly twice as many of the SkyBox Premium Rubies cards graded:

1. 1996 Ultra Gold Medallion #G52 Kobe Bryant - 80 cards graded 8 or higher

2. 1996 SkyBox Premium Rubies #55 Kobe Bryant - 151 cards graded 8 or higher

However, if you looked at valuations, the Rubies card traded at a significant premium to the Gold Medallion card.

1. 1996 Ultra Gold Medallion #G52 Kobe Bryant BGS 8.5 - $971

2. 1996 SkyBox Premium Rubies #55 Kobe Bryant BGS 8.5 - $6,474

From where we sit, there seems to be a value disconnect. The Gold Medallion card seems to be extremely undervalued RELATIVE to the Rubies card. As a result, we’ve been adding to our Gold Medallion collection.
